According to Deadline, Euphoria breakout star Sydney Sweeney has officially signed on for the leading role in Sony Pictures’ upcoming film adaptation of The Registration, based on Madison Lawson’s soon-to-be-published debut novel of the same name. The story centers around a woman, who discovers that somebody is planning to kill her in fourteen days.

The Registration will be written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, who previously worked together on the screenplay for the psychological horror film The Night House. The novel is scheduled to launch on September 27 by CamCat Publishing.

“Imagine it’s legal to commit one murder in your lifetime—if you Register the victim and accomplish the kill within fourteen days,” says the synopsis. “So when Lynell Mize stands in line to Register the man who abused her as a child, she’s shocked to hear a stranger Register her to be killed. Why would anyone who doesn’t know her squander his one legal murder on her? Desperate to survive the next two weeks, she must find out who wants to kill her—and why.

“Easier said than done as Lynell soon discovers that multiple strangers have used their Registration on her. Along the way, she reunites with her estranged husband who is determined to dig up a past Lynell prefers to keep buried. With only days left to live, Lynell is determined to uncover the truth and survive a destiny not of her choosing.”

The Registration will be produced by Sweeney for Fifty-Fifth films and Brad Fuller for Fuller Media Brand.

Besides her role as Cassie Howard in Euphoria, she’s also best known for appearing in last year’s The White Lotus series. The upcoming thriller marks Sweeney’s newest collaboration with Sony as she’s currently in production for the studio’s upcoming live-action Marvel film Madame Web.
